Black spots on leaves of Holly bush?

I have brown/black spots on the leaves of my holly bush. Is this a fungus or insect problem?

If the black spots can be scratched off this is an insect problem and you need to look into insecticides.

If the black spots do not scratch off, then this is a fungi condition. It could be caused from excessive heat and/or water. Your Holly Bush will need some tender, love, and care. Prune off the really bad sections and be sure to rake up all the clippings after pruning.

Look for a fertilizer with an acidic base for your Hollies. The fertilizer should be applied in early Spring or late Fall.Try to find a fertilizer that is made for broad-leaved evergreens that need acidic soil.
